5607 Retarder
Water-Based
Contains Propylene Glycol

Updated December 2023. Supersedes all previous editions

Description

5607 Retarder is a mix additive intended to lessen tip-dry when painting in arid or dry conditions.

5607 Retarder contains propylene glycol, which slows down the drying process, allowing for more working time and reducing the risk of the paint drying in the airbrush tip (tip-dry).

5607 Retarder is intended to be used in very sparing amounts.

  • Propylene glycol can affect the final finish and durability of the paint.
  • Paint may take longer to reach its full hardness and durability after adding 5607.
  • Adding too much 5607 may impact adhesion and durability of the final coating, creating a failure.

Usage

5607 Retarder can be either added direct to the paint or added to a thinner such as 4011 Reducer.

Adding 5607 Retarder to a thinner such as 4011 Reducer allows for the propylene-glycol to be introduced to the paint in a more limited amount cm pared to directly adding to the paint which can significantly change the behavior of the paint, especially adhesion and the hardness of the cured coating.

There is no set mix ratio for adding 5607 Retarder to paint or to 4011 Reducer.

  • Generally, add one drop of 5607 to one drop of 0.5oz. of paint.
  • Generally more 5607 is added to 4011 Reducer compared to adding it to paint, for example, add 2 or 3 drops of 5607 Retarder to 0.5oz. of 4011 Reducer.

When using 5607 Retarder for the first time, always test the drying, adhesion, and hardness of the cured paint on a test panel before using on an actual paint project.

Pot-Life & Storage

5607 Retarder does not have a pot-life.

  • When stored properly, 5607 Retarder can be kept and used well over 10 years.
  • Keep stored in a cool dry environment away from cold or hot temperatures, best kept at a range of 60°F – 80°F.
