5092 Flex Additive
Water-Based, Acrylic Resin
0 VOC

Updated December 2023. Supersedes all previous editions

Description

5092 Flex Additive is an acrylic-resin clear intended to be directly mixed with Createx paints when painting flexible substrates such as:

  • Latex
  • Flexible Foam
  • EVA Foam
  • Flexible Urethane
  • Rubber
  • Vinyl Fabrics
  • Faux Leather (Pleather)

5092 Flex Additive is a clear, water-based acrylic resin.

  • 5092 is a low viscosity (thin) clear, however, when mixed with colors, the resulting mix is higher in viscosity (thicker).
  • Thin as needed with 4011 Reducer.

5092 Flex Additive works because it is a softer (lower Tg value) acrylic resin compared to the Createx paint is added to, thereby lowering the overall softness (Tg value) of the paint which improves flexibility of the paint, allowing it to better conform to the flex and movement of the underlying substrate while maintaining adequate adhesion.

Usage

5092 Flex Additive is generally added 20% per volume to Createx paints.

  • Mix ratios can vary, with a minimum recommended volume of 10% per volume added to paint.
  • For latex and other very flexible substrates, more 5092 Flex Additive may be added to Createx paints.

Any mix ratios can be used; 5092 Flex Additive is an acrylic-resin so it can be added to paints in a wide range of ratios without affecting adhesion.

Thoroughly stir 5092 flex Additive with colors for at least a minute in a mixing cup to ensure a homogeneous mix. Do not add 5092 flex Additive to colors by pouring into the airbrush cup and shaking.

The more 5092 Flex Additive added to colors, the more colors will dry to a tacky coating due to the lower Tg value (softer hardness of the coating after air drying).

  • Avoid adding too much 5092 Flex Additive to keep color from drying to a tacky coating.
  • Surface tack of the paint may take several days after air drying to lessen as 5092 Flex Additive takes a much longer drying period to cure compared to Createx paints.

Dry times will be extended after mixing 5092 Flex Additive with Createx paints.

  • Ensure paint is allowed to air dry at room temperature no less than 60° F when paints have been mixed with 5092 Flex Additive.
  • Use moving air to assist drying, not heat.

Pot-Life & Storage

5092 Flex Additive does not have a pot-life.

  • Createx paints mixed with 5092 Flex Additive do not have a pot-life when kept air-tight.
  • When stored properly, 5092 Flex Additive can be kept and used for many years. The actual shelf life is 8 – 10 years from the date of purchase.
  • Keep stored in a cool dry environment away from cold or hot temperatures, best kept at a range of 60°F - 80°F.

Health & Safety

Use in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after use. Do not ingest.

When spraying or sanding, use a properly-fitting NIOSH approved respirator per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Skin contact: Thoroughly wash with soap and warm water. Wearing gloves is recommended.

Eye contact: Rinse with clean water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Use in in well-ventilated areas and wear a NIOSH approved respirator.
